Welcome, my name is Lila Illuzzi (formerly Macari) and I am an Artist.

I spent my undergrad at Salve Regina University, attaining a B.A. in Studio Art - Ceramics and  B. A. in Psychology.  I have always had a passion for art and creativity, and at Salve, I developed a new interest for psychology.  Immediately after graduation, I became employed at Newport Mental Health as a case manager. I worked there for three years and learned I have a passion for helping others.  There, I had started running a weekly Art Group where I guided clients in art making and creative healing, this helped me merge both of my passions for art and psychology.  Throughout high school and undergrad years, I spent time volunteering at Hasbro Children's Hospital, in their art department. There I had learned the basics about creative healing and expressive therapy and I also discovered my love for working with children.  With all my interests and experiences in mind, I decided to refocus my path.  I completed a graduate program at Rhode Island College, where received an M.A.T. in Art Education.   I currently work at Scituate Middle School as the Art Educator. With all my knowledge in art and all my experience working with others, I believe receiving a graduate degree in Art Education was the best path for me.  I love working with this age group of children and I enjoy every day in a middle school setting. I look forward to what new adventures my future holds for me.

My main focus in the art world is Ceramics.  I work mostly in porcelain but I have experience in stoneware and raku clay.  My favorite part in the ceramics procedure is decorating, I like to throw something on the wheel and then go wild with the decorations.  I was inspired to try slip trailing after I saw Kristin Kieffer, a current ceramic artist, demonstrate her technique at NCECA in Houston, Texas in 2013.  I am also very inspired Peter Max, a psychedelic illustrator from the 60s.  I don't only work with clay, I am also very skilled at Drawing and Two Dimensional Representation.  I can work in any medium but I mostly like to work in graphite pencil.  I like to slowly build up layers and I noticed I get a recognizable representation of that when working in graphite.  Another thing I really enjoy is Sculpting.  I prefer to work in Three Dimension and experiment with a variety of mediums.  I like to explore different types of materials that wouldn't necessarily be thought of to use for art.

With my skills in both Two Dimensional and Three Dimensional art, I know that I have a lot to offer as an Art Educator.
